Canmore sits about an hour west of Calgary, right where the foothills run out and the real mountains begin. It is the town people choose when Banff is full or too pricey, and a lot of visitors end up here without much thought given to how they will arrive. There are three main ways: ride in a private car, take a shared shuttle, or drive a rental. Each has a job it does well.

This is a driver and a vehicle that belong to you for the trip. They collect you at the airport or your door, take the direct route, and drop you at the address you give. Nothing else happens in between. It works well for families, groups that would otherwise need two taxis, and anyone arriving late. It also suits people heading to a house rental, where you want to be dropped at the driveway and not at a central shuttle stop.
The trade-off is cost. A private transfer is usually pricier than a seat in a shared van, though splitting it between several people changes the sums.
A shuttle runs on a schedule and carries multiple parties. It is cheaper per person, particularly if you are travelling solo. The compromises are timing and flexibility. You travel when it leaves, not when you are ready, and there may be stops before yours. Check where it drops off, since some end at a central point or a hotel and not your door.
Handy if you want to roam Kananaskis, drive to Lake Louise or do your own thing for a week. Less handy if you are staying in town and plan to walk. Remember to add parking, fuel and the driving itself, which in winter can be demanding. Our winter driving guide covers the Highway 1 side of that.

Allow roughly an hour on the road in good conditions, longer if the weather is poor or if you are leaving at rush hour. Mention ski bags, strollers and oversize luggage up front so the right vehicle is sent. If you are comparing Canmore with staying in Banff, read our Canmore vs. Banff cost comparison.
For direct trips we use our Calgary to Canmore private transfer, and if you are staying put we also offer limo service within Canmore. Send us your arrival time and group size via the contact page and we will come back with a fixed quote.
About an hour in normal conditions. Winter weather and busy weekends can add time.
A shuttle is cheaper per person for solo travellers. A private car is usually easier for groups, families, heavy luggage and late arrivals.
Yes, give us the address when you book and the driver goes to the door.
